Indonesian Catholic Priest Killed

Right after the Mass, When the newspaper arrived, I was saddened to read the news about Fr. Franciskus Madhu's death. Well, the motive is not yet known as of the moment as the police are trying to find one. I will post also the news item from the inquired net concerning this matter. It saddened me because like any other priest, he offered himself for Christ and His church so that the community may celebrate the Paschal mystery. Practically, I am not saddened because he died, all of us has to prepare ourselves for that, but on the way/manner he died. Yes, of course, it is not greater than to what our Lord Jesus Christ has suffered. But to kill a servant of God, a priest, a man of God for whatever reason and even if the killer is not a Christian is something unhuman.

Explicitly, the killer has to travel from Indonesia to Philippines to hunt down Fr. Madhu. This is my personal opinion based on the police report and the news that the assailant is from one of the island of Indonesia. Whatever, the reason behind, it is no justification for murder.

TABUK, Philippines -- An Indonesian Roman Catholic priest was fatally shot in Barangay (village) Mabungtot, Lubuagan town in Kalinga rpvoince, as he was preparing to celebrate Palm Sunday Mass, police and military officials said Monday.
Senior Superintendent Severino Cruz, Kalinga police director, said the Reverend Father Franciscos Madhu, 31, was preparing for the 5:30 p.m. Mass when a farmer, identified as Nestor Wailan, and three other men approached the priest and shot him with an M16 Armalite rifle.
Madhu, a native of Flores, one of the islands of East Nusa Tenggara province in Indonesia, died from five bullet wounds in the body. The bullets pierced his abdomen and hit his vital organs, reports said.
Cruz, quoting reports from police investigators, said Wailan had a brief conversation with Madhu before the shooting, during which the suspect allegedly told the priest: "Humanda ka [Get ready]!"

Wailan, according to the reports, shot Madhu as he was about to enter the Mabungtot Primary School, where he would say Mass.

Wailan, Cruz said, fled on foot with his companions, one of whom was identified as Joel Waingan.
Madhu died while being taken to the Lubuagan District Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival..

Cruz said they had yet to establish the motive in the killing and that Tabuk Bishop Prudencio Andaya Jr. went to Lubuagan to claim the remains of the slain priest.

The Philippine Daily Inquirer, parent company of INQUIRER.net, tried but failed to reach Andaya for additional information on Madhu. Police could not provide information on the circumstances of Madhu's assignment in Lubuagan.
The parish church where Madhu served is in Lubuagan's Mabungtot village, a two-hour walk from the town proper.

Cruz said Lubuagan parishioners had described Madhu as kind, helpful, industrious and outspoken.
Kalinga's provincial capital of Tabuk is about 330 kilometers (205 miles) north of Manila.
