Police identifies Cebu priest killers

Update on Priest shot on Cebu. A repost from CBCPNews)

MANILA, July 8, 2009—Police operatives from Regional Office No. 7 in Cebu have already identified the suspects involved in the fatal shooting of Fr. Jovencio Rabusa.

Chief Supt. Lani-O Nerez, PNP Regional Director for Central Visayas said they have already identified the three suspects involved in the crime.

In an interview with CBCPNews, Nerez said the three men belong to a group of six, involved in a series of robberies in Talisay, Cebu.

“We have already launched our manhunt operations and we expect arrests soon,” Nerez said.

He, however, refused to name the suspects pending arrests. He described the incident as “isolated.”

The priest was on his way to his sister’s residence when held-up and shot dead by the suspects.

“Hindi nila nakilala si Fr. Rabusa kaya’t nang matagpuan nila yung church vestments sa kanyang bag, itinapon nila at tumakas agad,” (They did not recognize Fr. Rabusa, so that when they found church vestments in his bag they threw them away and fled) Nerez concluded. (Melo M. Acuna)
