FEAST OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, THE ETERNAL HIGH PRIEST

Thursday after Pentecost

Thursday after Pentecost

OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, THE ETERNAL HIGH PRIEST

Feast

The Feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ, The Eternal High Priest, according to the order of Melchizedek. In him the Father has been well pleased from before all time. As Mediator between God and human beings, fulfilling his Father’s will, he sacrificed himself once on the altar of the Cross as a saving Victim for the whole world. Thus, instituting the pattern of an everlasting sacrifice, with a brother’s kindness he chose, from among the children of Adam, men to augment the priesthood, so that, from the sacrifice continually renewed in the Church, streams of divine power might flow, whereby a new heaven and a new earth might be made, and throughout the whole universe there would be perfected what no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor has entered into the human heart.

Thursday after Pentecost

OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, THE ETERNAL HIGH PRIEST

Feast

ENTRANCE ANTIPHON                                                                  Cf. Heb 7:24; 9, 15

Christ, Mediator of the New Covenant, has an eternal priesthood Because he  remains for ever.

The Gloria in excelsis (Glory to God in the highest) is said.

COLLECT

O God, who for the glory of your majesty and the salvation of the human race, made your Only Begotten Son the Eternal High Priest, grant that, through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, those whom he has chosen as ministers and stewards of his mysteries may be found faithful in carrying out the ministry they have received. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS

Lord, may our Mediator Jesus Christ render these gifts acceptable to you, and may he present us as sacrifices pleasing to you in union with him. Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

PREFACE: THE PRIESTHOOD OF CHRIST AND OF THE CHURCH

V. The Lord be with you.

R. And with your spirit.

V. Lift up your hearts.

R. We lift them up to the Lord.

V. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

R. It is right and just.

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks,

Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God.

For by the anointing of the Holy Spirit you made your Only Begotten Son

High Priest of the new and eternal covenant, and by your wondrous design were pleased to decree that his one Priesthood should continue in the Church. For Christ not only adorns with a royal priesthood the people he has made his own, but with a brother’s kindness he also chooses men to become sharers in his sacred ministry through the laying on of hands. They are to renew in his name the sacrifice of human redemption, to set before your children the paschal banquet, to lead your holy people in charity, to nourish them with the word and strengthen them with the Sacraments. As they give up their lives for you and for the salvation of their brothers and sisters, they strive to be conformed to the image of Christ himself and offer you a constant witness of faith and love.

And so, Lord, with all the Angels and Saints, we, too, give you thanks, as in exultation we acclaim:

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts...

COMMUNION ANTIPHON         Mt 28:20

And behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

May this divine sacrifice we have offered and received fill us with life, O Lord, we pray, so that, bound to you in lasting charity, we may bear fruit that lasts for ever.
Through Christ our Lord.

READINGS

Thursday after Pentecost

OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, THE ETERNAL HIGH PRIEST

Feast

Year B

FIRST READING                                                                               Jeremiah 31:31-34

I will make a new covenant with them; I will remember their sins no more.

A reading from the Book of the Prophet Jeremiah

‘Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord,

when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant which I made with their fathers

when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt,

my covenant which they broke, though I was their husband, says the Lord.

But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord:

I will put my law within them, and I will write it upon their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

And no longer shall each man teach his neighbour and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, says the Lord;

for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.’ The word of the Lord.

or:

FIRST READING                                                                                Hebrews 10:11-18

He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.

A reading from the Letter to the Hebrews

Every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.

But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God,

then to wait until his enemies should be made a stool for his feet.

For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying,

‘This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord:

I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds,’

then he adds,

‘I will remember their sins and their misdeeds no more.’

Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin. The word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM                                              Psalm 110(109):1b-e, 2, 3 (R. 4b)

R. You are a priest for ever, according to the order of Melchizedek.

The Lord’s revelation to my lord:

‘Sit at my right hand,

until I make your foes your footstool.’ R.

The Lord will send from Zion your sceptre of power:

rule in the midst of your foes. R.

With you is princely rule on the day of your power.

In holy splendour, from the womb before the dawn, I have begotten you. R.

ALLELUIA                                                                                              Hebrews 5:8-9

R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Since he was Son,

he learned obedience through those things which he suffered,

and having been made perfect, he has become for all who obey him the author of eternal salvation.

R. Alleluia, alleluia.

GOSPEL                                                                                                   Mark 14:22-25

This is my body. This is my blood.

+ A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark

As they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to them, and said, ‘Take; this is my body.’

And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it.

And he said to them, ‘This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.

Truly, I say to you, I shall not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.’

The Gospel of the Lord.

MGA PAGBASA

KAPISTAHAN NG PANGINOONG HESUKRISTO, WALANG HANGGANG AT DAKILANG PARI

Huwebes pagkaraan ng Pentekostes

Taon B

UNANG PAGBASA                                                                                                 Jeremias 31:31-34

At kanya ring sinabi pagkatapos,

R. Aleluya! Aleluya!

MABUTING BALITA                                                                          Marcos 14:22-25

Hinawakan niya ang kalis, at matapos magpasalamat ay ibinigay sa kanila;

at uminom silang lahat.
