Wednesday of the First Week in Ordinary Time (January 12, 2011)

First Reding (Heb 2:14-18)
Responsorial Psalm (ps-1051-2-3-4-6-7-8-9.)
Gospel (Mk 1:29-39)

Simon Peter has a mother-in-law. The apostle had a wife. Alive or not, we are not certain. What we are certain here is that Simon has a sick mother-in-law. And along with Andrew, James and John, they brought this to the attention of our Lord Jesus Christ, their master. Jesus healed Simon's mother-in-law as healed people of various diseases that comes to him for help.

This is one way of assuring us that as Jesus heals people that come for his help, he will also do likewise to the relatives of those who come to follow him. It is not that God plays favorites but an occasion of assurance that his blessings and miracles is for everybody to bring out goodness and salvation, and people who are dear to his disciples will also be granted the same
