Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 4:38-44. Leaving the synagogue, Jesus went to the house of Simon. His mother-in-law was suffering from high fever and they asked him to do something for her. Bending over her, he rebuked the fever, and it left her. Immediately she got up and waited on them. At sunset, people suffering from many kinds of sickness were brought to Jesus. Laying his hands on each one, he healed them. Demons were driven out, howling as they departed from their victims, “You are the Son of God!” He rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, for they knew he was the Messiah. Jesus left at daybreak and looked for a solitary place. People went out in search of him and, finding him, they tried to dissuade him from leaving. But he said, “I have to go to other towns to announce the good news of the kingdom of God. That is what I was sent to do.” So Jesus continued to preach in the synagogues of Judea.

First Reding (Heb 2:14-18 ) Responsorial Psalm (ps-1051-2-3-4-6-7-8-9.) Gospel (Mk 1:29-39) Simon Peter has a mother-in-law. The apostle had a wife. Alive or not, we are not certain. What we are certain here is that Simon has a sick mother-in-law. And along with Andrew, James and John, they brought this to the attention of our Lord Jesus Christ, their master. Jesus healed Simon's mother-in-law as healed people of various diseases that comes to him for help. This is one way of assuring us that as Jesus heals people that come for his help, he will also do likewise to the relatives of those who come to follow him. It is not that God plays favorites but an occasion of assurance that his blessings and miracles is for everybody to bring out goodness and salvation, and people who are dear to his disciples will also be granted the same ShareThis Blogs commenting Fr. On leaving the synagogue Jesus entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John. Simon’s mother-in-law lay sick with a fever. They immediately told him about her. He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up. Then the fever left her and she waited on them. When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons. The whole town was gathered at the door. He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew him. Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed. Simon and those who were with him pursued him and on finding him said, “Everyone is looking for you.” He told them, “Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For this purpose have I come.” So he went into their synagogues, preaching and driving out demons throughout the whole of Galilee. ShareThis Blogs com...
