Pastoral Exhortation on the Era of New Evangelization LIVE CHRIST, SHARE CHRIST Looking Forward to Our Five Hundredth Go and make disciples… (Mt. 28:19) We look forward with gratitude and joy to March 16, 2021, the fifth centenary of the coming of Christianity to our beloved land. We remember with thanksgiving the first Mass celebrated on Limasawa Island on Easter Sunday March 31 that same blessed year. We remember the baptism of Rajah Humabon who was given his Christian name Carlos and his wife Harah Amihan who was baptized Juana in 1521. Our eyes gaze on the Santo Nino de Cebu, the oldest religious icon in the Philippines, gift of Ferdinand Magellan to the first Filipino Catholics that same year. Jesus went out along the sea. All the crowd came to him and he taught them. As he passed by, he saw Levi, son of Alphaeus, sitting at the customs post. Jesus said to him, “Follow me.” And he got up and followed Jesus. While he was at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners sat with Jesus and his disciples; for there were many who followed him. Some scribes who were Pharisees saw that Jesus was eating with sinners and tax collectors and said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” Jesus heard this and said to them, “Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do. I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.” ShareThis Blogs commenting Fr. Jessie's post

What we are certain here is that Simon has a sick mother-in-law. And along with Andrew, James and John, they brought this to the attention of our Lord Jesus Christ, their master. Jesus healed Simon's mother-in-law as healed people of various diseases that comes to him for help. This is one way of assuring us that as Jesus heals people that come for his help, he will also do likewise to the relatives of those who come to follow him. It is not that God plays favorites but an occasion of assurance that his blessings and miracles is for everybody to bring out goodness and salvation, and people who are dear to his disciples will also be granted the same ShareThis Blogs commenting Fr.
