CBCP Statement for the CATHOLIC RESPONSE TO THE IGLESIA NI CRISTO RALLIES

Image
Sons and Daughters of the Church, Citizens of the Republic Catholic Response To The Iglesia Ni Cristo Rallies What do we Catholics do as our brothers and sisters of the Iglesia ni Cristo throng around the EDSA Shaw area? We, your bishops, offer you these guidelines: 1. PRAY WITHOUT CEASING for a peaceful and just resolution of the present dispute, in a manner both pleasing to God and in conformity with the democratic convictions enunciated in our Constitution. 2. BE CHARITABLE AT ALL TIMES AND IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES. Jesus, the Lord, willed His disciples to be known by their love. No Catholic should fan the flames of dissension by rumor-mongering and by inflammatory statements. Let all be kind in disposition, respectful in speech and prudent in action. 3. SEEK ENLIGHTENMENT. We appeal to our Catholic lawyers, jurists and law professors to contribute to the on-going discourse in a constructive manner, without condemnation. We seek to be enlightened on what the f...

GOSPEL REFLECTION: 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time (A) 12th October 2014 by Rev.Fr. Allen Baclor Abadines * GOSPEL: (Matthew 22:1-14) Once more Jesus spoke to the chief priests and Pharisees in parables: "The Kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son. He sent his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding banquet, but they would not come. Again he sent other slaves, saying, "Tell those who have been invited: "Look, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready; come to the wedding banquet." But they made light of it and went away, one to his farm, another to his business, while the rest seized his slaves, mistreated them, and killed them. The king was enraged. He sent his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city. "Then he said to his slaves, "The wedding is ready, but those invited were not worthy. Go theref...

GOSPEL REFLECTION: 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time (A) Matthew 21:33-43 5th October 2014 by Rev.Fr. Allen Baclor Abadines  * GOSPEL: Matthew 21:33-43 Jesus said to the chief priests and the elders of the people: "Listen to another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a watchtower. Then he leased it to tenants and went to another country. "When the harvest time had come, he sent his slaves to the tenants to collect his produce. But the tenants seized his slaves and beat one, killed another, and stoned another. Again he sent other slaves, more than the first; and they treated them in the same way. "Finally, he sent his son to them saying, "They will respect my son." But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, "This is the heir; come, let us kill him and get his inheritance." So they seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. "Now when the owner ...

GOSPEL REFLECTION: The Exaltation of the Holy Cross

GOSPEL REFLECTION: The Exaltation of the Holy Cross 14th September 2014 by Rev. Fr. Allen Baclor Abadines GOSPEL: John 3:13-17 Jesus said to Nicodemus: "No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world , but in order that the world might be saved through him." REFLECTION: It was through the wood i.e. the tree of the knowledge of good and evil- that humans lost the friendship with God (Gen. 3). Ironically, It was also through the wood i.e. the Cross -that humans regained that friendship with God. This Sunday we celebrate the Feast of t...

Grace and all-loving Father, out of love for all people you spoke Your Word who become flesh for our salvation. May Your Word transformed me so that the message of Your Son, our Lord, may be echoed through my teaching. Allow me to guide the hearts of those whom I teach in such a way that they will enter more deeply into your way of truth and salvation. Grant me the insight needed to lead them to know, love and serve you. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit , may they become hearers and followers of your Word, so that they might help transform the world to follow the way of life to which Your Son has called us all, for He lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 4:38-44.

Image
Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 4:38-44. Leaving the synagogue, Jesus went to the house of Simon. His mother-in-law was suffering from high fever and they asked him to do something for her. Bending over her, he rebuked the fever, and it left her. Immediately she got up and waited on them. At sunset, people suffering from many kinds of sickness were brought to Jesus. Laying his hands on each one, he healed them. Demons were driven out, howling as they departed from their victims, “You are the Son of God!” He rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, for they knew he was the Messiah. Jesus left at daybreak and looked for a solitary place. People went out in search of him and, finding him, they tried to dissuade him from leaving. But he said, “I have to go to other towns to announce the good news of the kingdom of God. That is what I was sent to do.” So Jesus continued to preach in the synagogues of Judea.

Brothers and sisters: Every high priest is taken from among men and made their representative before God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal patiently with the ignorant and erring, for he himself is beset by weakness and so, for this reason, must make sin offerings for himself as well as for the people. No one takes this honor upon himself but only when called by God, just as Aaron was. In the same way, it was not Christ who glorified himself in becoming high priest, but rather the one who said to him: You are my Son: this day I have begotten you; just as he says in another place, You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. In the days when he was in the Flesh, he offered prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered; and when he was made perfect, he became the ...
