This is an update on the 12 Pilgrims killed on bus acciden t taken from the Manila Bulletin issue last Monday, March 18,2010. PUGO, La Union – Twelve Holy Week pilgrims were killed while 41 others were seriously injured when their bus apparently lost its brakes and slammed into a tree while descending Marcos Highway in Barangay Palina here early Saturday night. Police said the pilgrims were all from Sta. Rosa City in Laguna and were on their way home after a day-long visit of several churches in Baguio City as part of the Lenten Season tradition of “visita iglesia”. Eight of the fatalities reportedly died on the spot while the four others expired while undergoing treatment at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center. Early this morning, right after my 6:30 Mass, a text coming from the secretary of the diocese informing me to include in the intention of all the Masses for the soul of 12 parishioners of the Chair of St. Peter Parish of Balibago, Sta. Rosa, Laguna who were killed in the bus accident after they visited the churches of Baguio. Prayer also for the early recovery of the wounded. Here is the news report of the Abs-Cbn. BAGUIO CITY, Philippines - Eleven people were killed and at least 25 others were injured when a tourist bus rammed into a tree in Pugo, La Union Saturday afternoon. Out of the 11 fatalities, 8 were killed instantly in the accident that took place at around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. One of them was even decapitated. Three others died while undergoing treatment at the Baguio General Hospital. Authorities are still confirming the identities of the fatalities, most of whom did not have identification cards.
