Communion of Communities: Ecclesiological Perspective Fr. Amado L. Picardal, CSsR, STD “2017- Parish as Communion of Communities: In this year we will discern the quality of faith life in the parish, the fellowship, belongingness, and participation experienced by its members. Efforts will be focused on making the parish a communion of communities, a communion of Basic Ecclesial Communities and of covenanted faith-communities and ecclesial movements. All these various communities should be thus integrated into the life and mission of the parish so that the parish will be truly be a faith community immersed in the lives of its people.” Etymology of Communion – Koinonia Communion is a translation of the original Greek koinonia which has several connotations: Union, unity Fellowship Community Friendship Sharing Participation Partnership Koinonia in Sacred Scripture In the New Testament, there are several texts that refe...

GOSPEL REFLECTION 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year B) Sunday, 5th July 2015 by Rev. Fr. Allen Baclor Abadines  READINGS: First Reading: Ezekiel 2:3-5 Responsorial Psalm: Our eyes look to the Lord, until he has mercy upon us. Second Reading: 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 GOSPEL : Mark 6:1-6 Jesus came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him. On the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astounded. They said, "Where did this man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been given to him? What deeds of power are being done by his hands! Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us?" And they took offence at him. Then Jesus said to them, "A Prophet is not without honour, except in his hometown, and among his own kin, and in his own house." And Jesus could do no deed of power there, except that he laid his ...

Prayer For The People of Syria

Image
The Bishop Conference of the United States of  America posted a prayer for the people of Syria as Adapted from the Catholics Confront Global poverty through the collaborative effort with Catholic Relief Services. This is heeding the call of Pope Francis for offering September 7 as a day of prayer for peace and fasting for Syria and Middle East. Prayer For The People of Syria Almighty eternal God, source of all compassion, the promise of your mercy and saving help fills our hearts with hope. Hear the cries of the people of Syria; bring healing to those suffering from the violence, and comfort to those mourning the dead. Empower and encourage Syria’s neighbors  in their care and welcome for refugees. Convert the hearts of those who have taken up arms, and strengthen the resolve of those committed to peace. O God of hope and Father of mercy, your Holy Spirit inspires us to look beyond ourselves and our own needs. Inspire leaders to choose peace over violence...

Educating young people in Justice And Peace

Image
MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS POPE BENEDICT XVI FOR THE CELEBRATION OF THE WORLD DAY OF PEACE 1 JANUARY 2012 EDUCATING YOUNG PEOPLE IN JUSTICE AND PEACE 1. The beginning of a new year, God’s gift to humanity, prompts me to extend to all, with great confidence and affection, my heartfelt good wishes that this time now before us may be marked concretely by justice and peace. With what attitude should we look to the New Year? We find a very beautiful image in Psalm 130. The Psalmist says that people of faith wait for the Lord “more than those who watch for the morning” (v. 6); they wait for him with firm hope because they know that he will bring light, mercy, salvation. This waiting was born of the experience of the Chosen People, who realized that God taught them to look at the world in its truth and not to be overwhelmed by tribulation. I invite you to look to 2012 with this attitude of confident trust. It is true that the year now ending has been marked by a rising sense of frustrat...

Prayer for Priests to St. Jean Vianney

Image
Prayer for Priests to St. Jean Vianney Dear Saint Jean Vianney, your childhood dream was to be a priest, to win souls for God. You endured years of toil and humiliation to attain the priesthood. You became a priest truly after God’s own heart, outstanding in humility, poverty, prayer and mortification, totally devoted to the service of God’s people. The Church has exalted you as model and patron saint of all parish priests, trusting that your example and prayers will help them to live up to the high dignity of their vocation to be faithful servants of God’s people, to be perfect imitators of Christ the Savior, Who came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many. Pray that God may give to His Church today many more priests after His own heart. Pray for all the priests under your patronage, that they may be worthy representatives of Christ the Good Shepherd. May they wholeheartedly devote themselves to prayer and penance. May they be examples of humility...
