As we celebrate today the feast of St. Alphonsus de Ligouri, Bishop and Doctor of the Church and founder of the Redemptorist Order, I thank God for the love that St. Alphonsus have poured out to Jesus Christ through the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament of which he drew strength to perform his daily activities in the proclamation of the love of God. As we prepare all the necessary precautions against the coming storm "Habagat" , Let us also bend our knees in the front of the blessed sacrament to save us from any catastrophe. St. Martin de Porres, pray for us,  Almighty Father, We raise our hearts to You in gratitude, for the wonders of creation of which we are part, for Your providence in sustaining us in our needs, and for Your wisdom that guides the course of the universe. We acknowledge our sins against You and the rest of Your creation. We have not been good stewards of nature. We have confused Your command to subdue the earth. The environment is made to suffer our wrongdoing, and now we reap the harvest of our abuse and indifference. Global warning is upon us. Typhoons, floods, volcanic eruption, and other natural calamities occur in the increasing number and intensity. We turn to you, our loving Father, and beg forgiveness for o...

In our Creed, which goes back to the 5th century, fifteen hundred years ago, we say every Sunday at Mass that Jesus was “God from God, light from light, true God from true God, begotten not made, of one being with the Father”. We are all children of God in the sense that God made us, and even more that he loved us and made us his children by adoption in our baptism. But Catholics, along with all orthodox Christians, believe that Jesus was the natural not the adopted Son of God, sharing fully in the being of his Father. How do we know this? At the end of the day, by faith. Saint Paul said “No one can say ‘Jesus is Lord’ except by the Holy Spirit”. The ...
