Saint Rose of Lima

Image
It was commonly believed that Saint Martin de Porres and St. Rose of Lima are contemporary but I could not have a reference if they have personally met. However, there is a page that say that the only spiritual support that Saint Rose received comes from St. Martin de Porres that can be found here . St Martin de Porres - 1579 - 1639 St Rose of Lima - 1586-1617 Born as Isabel Flores y de Oliva (20 April, 1586-30 August, 1617) from a Spanish colonial family in Lima, Peru, was nicknamed “Rose” from an incident in her childhood. Rose was the seventh of eleven children born to Oliva and Gaspar Flores. She wanted to be a nun, but instead entered the Dominican Third Order while living in her parents’ home. At twenty she took a vow of perpetual virginity. For eleven years she lived an ascetical life of prayer and died at the age of 31. She was the first person born in the Americas to be canonized. What St. Rose of Lima attracted to me is her way to do penance without attracting att...

Prayer For The People of Syria

Image
The Bishop Conference of the United States of  America posted a prayer for the people of Syria as Adapted from the Catholics Confront Global poverty through the collaborative effort with Catholic Relief Services. This is heeding the call of Pope Francis for offering September 7 as a day of prayer for peace and fasting for Syria and Middle East. Prayer For The People of Syria Almighty eternal God, source of all compassion, the promise of your mercy and saving help fills our hearts with hope. Hear the cries of the people of Syria; bring healing to those suffering from the violence, and comfort to those mourning the dead. Empower and encourage Syria’s neighbors  in their care and welcome for refugees. Convert the hearts of those who have taken up arms, and strengthen the resolve of those committed to peace. O God of hope and Father of mercy, your Holy Spirit inspires us to look beyond ourselves and our own needs. Inspire leaders to choose peace over violence...

Rene Manipol

Nahihirap...

Thursday of the First Week in Ordinary Time (January 13, 2011)

First Reading (Heb 3:7-14) Responsorial Psalm (Ps 95:6-7c, 8-9, 10-11) Gospel Mk 1:40-45 "Tell no one anything". Jesus warned the lepers whom he just healed. The leper was not been able to follow the instruction of Jesus for several reasons. Maybe he was so joyful and elated on the miracle he himself was blessed. Maybe he was too overjoyed to forget the bidding of the Lord, Jesus Christ. Wondering that one was able to free himself from the bondage of the most malignant disease of the time. he escaped the formidable and continues pain of disease of the skin that no medicine can cure during his time. Yes, I agree that there might be some reason why the healed leper forgot the instruction of Jesus not to tell anyone. However, this action had led to some consequences that might not been on the mind of the healed leper when he told someone on this miracles that Jesus had performed. Jesus was not been able to roam the city freely because of the crowds that swarms on Jesus feet....
