No to Death Penalty

Image
Some people wonder how could a three fourths of the honorable members of the Philippine Congress has voted for yes to reinstate the death penalty in our country. A move that is exactly and blatantly contrary to our Christian belief on the sanctity of life and inalienable right to life. And it is sad to say that this is the indicative of the prevailing belief of the Filipino Catholics because I have heard from not only one member of the lower house representative that a survey was been circulated to the assigned congressional district to feel the pulse of the people under his or her constituency. And the result of the survey is for death penalty with a wide m...

51st Eucharistic Congress 2016 Livestream

Image
As the Celebration of the long awaited International Eucharistic Congress to be held here in Cebu, Philippines is near, the convenors have decided to have it open on live streaming so that it could make it available to the most faithful even for those who could not attain there physically for various reason. Personally, I would like to attain but it is 8 day event that will cover two Sundays. I could not find priest to substitute me if I will go. Some people suggested that anybody could just spent three days for the event. It will be an opportunity lost also and a divided attention if you will not be present for the whole event. it will also be a half baked bread. So it is of great news that the event though we might not really know which event or events will be aired is indeed a blessing.  I will put it also to the sidebars of this blog, and if possible make an application for this sole purpose will also be an added great endeavor.

What is International Eucharistic Congress

Image
What is the International Eucharistic Congress and why it is to be held here in Cebu, Philippines A Eucharistic Congress is an international gathering of people aimed at promoting an awareness of the central place of the Eucharist in the life and mission of the Catholic Church. The Roman Ritual De Sacra Communione et de Cultu Mysterii Eucharistici extra Missam defines the Congress as “a pause for commitment and prayer to which a particular Church invites the universal Church”. During this time “the celebration of the Eucharist becomes the center and vortex of all forms of piety, of theological and pastoral reflections, of social commitment”. The Congress normally takes place every four years. Eucharistic Congresses are not the same everywhere. They are characterized by a life of faith and by the culture and tradition of a particular country. All these must be seen during the Congress. The choice of the Philippines as the next venue for the congress was announced by Pope...

History of the International Eucharistic Congress

Image
The work of International Eucharistic Congresses began in France in 1881 as a fruit of the Eucharistic apostolate of Saint Peter-Julian Eymard, “the apostle of the Eucharist” (1811-1868), and of other outstanding figures such as Blessed Antoine Chevrier (1826-1879), Léon Dupont (1797-1876) and Bishop Gaston Adrian de Ségur (1820-1880). Thanks to the insight and commitment of Miss Émilie-Marie Tamisier (1834-1910), her idea of “Eucharistic pilgrimages” gradually changed into Congresses of Eucharistic Works, which later came to be known as “Eucharistic Congresses”. Immediately submitted to the Holy See, International Eucharistic Congresses appeared as public events focused on stimulating the faith of Catholics in the “Real Presence”, on promoting increased zeal for devotion to the Eucharist outside of Mass, and on proclaiming the social Kingship of Christ against the laicism then regnant. Devotion to the Eucharist outside of Mass almost exclusively characterized the Euch...

Official Prayer for the 51st International Eucharistic Congress 2016

Image
Lord Jesus Christ, our hope of glory, You are the fulfillment of the Father’s plan to save all humanity. You are the mystery hidden from the ages and from generations past now manifested to us. You abide in your Church in the most holy sacrament of the Eucharist. As we celebrate the Holy Eucharist and receive your Body and Blood, grant us the awareness that your presence in us urges us to continue your saving mission in the world. Send us your Holy Spirit, that he may lead us to walk humbly with the poor and the marginalized, in the company of Mary, your most holy mother and ours. O Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament, to you be all honor and glory and praise in the unity of the Father and the Holy Spirit. One God, forever and ever. Amen.

Pro-Life Advocacy: Its Urgency in Our Present Society

Image
My talk will not be long. In this talk I will focus on why it is urgent that we work hard so that the House Bill 4244 or the so called Reproductive Health Bill will not be passed by Congress and the Senate. I will also explain and refute the ideas on which those who are in favor of the HB 4244 base themselves. Before anything else I would like to remind ourselves of the broader or complete meaning of pro-life advocacy. We should defend and promote life from the womb to the tomb in all stages of life. Here I would like to quote lengthily from the encyclical letter of Blessed John Paul II, “Evangelium Vitae, the Gospel of Life, No. 3” “Every individual, precisely by reason of the mystery of the Word of God who was made flesh (cf. Jn 1:14), is entrusted to the maternal care of the Church. Therefore every threat to human dignity and life must necessarily be felt in the Church's very heart; it cannot but affect her at the core of her faith in the Redemptive Incarnation of the Son ...
