The Gospel for today presents us with the teachings of Jesus that are as relevant now as they were two thousand years ago. We often hear the phrase, "to err is human, but to forgive is divine." This saying captures the essence of today's Gospel, where Jesus speaks to the heart of our relationships with one another, particularly focusing on the theme of forgiveness. ### The Reality of Forgiveness Jesus teaches us in a simple yet profound manner that forgiveness is not just an act; it is a deliberate choice and a way of living. The act of forgiving is not merely for the one who wronged us, but it is primarily for our own peace and spiritual well-being. We must remember that when we hold onto resentment and anger, we are often the ones who suffer. Our hearts become heavy, and we are blinded to the love and grace that God continually offers us. In the First Reading from Paul’s letter to the Colossians, we are reminded to bear with one another and forgive each other as the Lord has forgiven us.
