Holy Spirit Mass 2008

The Liceo de Bay celebrates the Holy Spirit Mass this 8 o'clock this morning. The Students ask the help of the Holy Spirit to give them proper disposition as the new school year starts.

I have emphasized in my homily that God would like them to be well as the blind mind asked the help of the Lord if He wants him to be healed from his blindness and the Lord Jesus Christ answered, Yes I want you to see. Yes, God would like all of us to be well, He wants us to be in excellent well being both in body and soul. The catholic school is a venue to attain a well perspective of the good and even excellent future of the faithful to lead the country to a more progressive nation.

Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program 20th Anniversary

As part of the celebration of the 20th year foundation of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP), the provincial office of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) invited me to celebrate the Holy Eucharist in their office here in Bay, Laguna

At 10:00 this morning I celebrate with them in thanksgiving to the Almighty God for the blessing and guidance that the Lord has bestowed on this government agency. This is the time also to pray for the strengthening of the faith of its workforce as it also marks the termination for the work of the agrarian reform law. The agency ask for the extension of the said program in congress and still under review by the lawmakers.

The Church has long been the forerunner of the agrarian reform and still commits itself for the continuation of its work. However, it should be noted that more changes has to be made.

This is what Catholic Bishop's Conference of the Philippines has to say:

Prayer for St. Augustine

An English Version of the Prayer of St. Augustine was also finished. Here is the copy.
PRAYER FOR SAINT AUGUSTINE
O Saint Augustine, you have chosen by God the Creator to be the teacher of love, light of preachers and students, Doctor and pillar of the Mother Church, defender of Christian faith and shield against enemies. Let me imitate your example of conversion so that I can also attain straight path towards eternal serenity, and may my heart be a dwelling place of the Holy Trinity.
Pray for me, my patron Saint Augustine, so that my vices and the wrong teachings that I believe in be reformed through the help and mercy of Jesus Christ. Through the inspiration that you followed in the letter of Saint Paul in the New Testament, "to stop living my immoral lives and to live in imitation of Jesus." (cf. Rom. 13:13-14)
Help me, Saint Augustine, so that the wisdom and the intelligence that God has given me will reign. May these blessings will lead my life towards holiness. Enlighten my mind so that I will trust in the blessings of the Holy Spirit and not only to my own competence.
Saint Augustine, pray for me to God, the Holy Spirit, for my personal intentions… (Pause for a while and think for your personal intentions)
I pray also for all the students, especially those who are taking examinations, that through your intercession Saint Augustine they may overcome the trials that they are facing in the questions that they have to answer. That the wisdom and intelligence that You have will become their instrument so that they will be enlightened in any tests or trials they are going to face in their life.
May I live out your examples, o my patron Saint Augustine, so that my restless heart will find peace and enliven in the love of one God. Amen.
Saint Augustine, students’ pillar of strength, pray for us.
Saint Augustine, light of teachers, pray for us.
Saint Augustine, intercessor of board examinees, pray for us.
Saint Augustine, vessel of Divine Wisdom, pray for us.
Saint Augustine, consoler of the distressed, pray for us.

Tree Prunning

Even before the coming of the typhoon Frank, it was been a long plan to cut down some branches of the trees within the vicinity of the Parish Church grounds but could not find the right person to do it. The leaves have silted through the roof and has caused some damage on the rainwater drainage there. We have to do something fast especially as raining season is approaching.

Today, this plan was materialized because this guy who once was a member of an akyat bahay gang is kind enough to make this task make possible. Of course for a fee.

Prayer Composition

It was been a long dream of mine to compose a prayer for St. Augustine to be used by the people of God especially of my parishioners for the growth of the devotion to St. Augustine. Thanks through the help of seminarian Richie Fortus.

Here is the Tagalog version. English version is on the way.

Typhoon Frank

It was two in the early morning that put out the electricity in almost all of Laguna. It was also the time that the typhoon Frank entered the said province. The strength of his winds were greatly felt that brought down tree and electrical post on their knees. Rain continues to pour down. Some of my neighboring parishioners have come out in the hall for evacuation because their place is beyond the water level and susceptible for flooding. Only a handful attended the morning masses.

Some parts of my parish was on waist deep muddy waters.

Two days later here is the report from the CBCP office.

CFC Global Congress

For the first time the Couples For Christ have included CFC Clergy Congress in their celebration of 27th year of foundation. I was been invited for the said gathering. I was been fetch in Bay, Laguna at 6 o'clock in the morning. I arranged that Fr. Alek will preside over the celebration of the Holy Eucharist that morning, but since Cyrus was also around Fr. Alek gave the slot to Fr. Cyrus.

After I was fetch here, I was been transfered to Sta. Rosa. A member of the Couples bring me to the said congress before 8 o'clock in the morning which is the supposed time to start the said event, however it was past ten when everything keep on rolling.

Most of the talks were centered on the cooperation between the clergy and the laity and in particular with the lay organization, Couples for Christ. This problem was long been present but it has blown out especially when the CFC Global was threathened with the slintered group CFC FLL

St. Augustine Chapel Construction

The president of the Philippines have moved the holiday of June 12 as the Independence Day celebration to June 9 for a long holiday. It is also an occasion from which the Lay Ministers of the Holy Communion can start the construction of the St. Augustine Chapel. Actually it is the renovation of the Old Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel building. Eucharistic Adoration was stopped even before I assume office as the Parish Priest. I have contemplated the continuation of the said devotion but as I observe the present situation of the Parish it is not possible as of the moment. From the very start there are few who would like to continue the devotion but I challenge them to give me people who can devote their time to fill the slot to stay in the chapel one hour each week. For some time, I have waited for response and I have received none. Yes, nada.

The said edifice was been used for meetings of small groups for some time. But since the parish need to boost the devotion to the Patron Saint and to establish a more significant place for those asking for his intercession, with diligence and prayerful discernment, i decided to push thru the idea of the place fitting for the said devotion. Yes, the construction of the new building for his honor was not been ruled out but with the absence of the Parish Finance Council, it will take a very painful thrust. And as you can see the surroundings, the best place suitable place is the present location of the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel (PEAC) which is accessible to the people. The construction of the new building at the front of the Church was ruled out because it is against the principles of Church Construction guidelines.

The members of the Lay Ministers of the Holy Communion (LMHC) started ripping the roof of the said building because it has deteriorated through the years. They also took out the steel enclosement.

A very Good Laison

Miss Elechosa has once more visited me and has ease some of my work here though she is not part of the parish workers. The work of the priest especially of the parish priests varies and require a lot of time of which need some assistance from the lay. Gelyn is one of my parishioners from baranggay San Isidro. Every Sunday, if she is not too busy, she tries to visit me and help me out with some errands for the parish. Since She is one of the regular Church goers she dropped by to see if there is something she could be of help. I thank God for sending some people like Gelyn. Thanks Gelyn!

Barrio Visit of St. Augustine 2008

Every year, as part of the parish activities to prepare for the feast of St. Augustine, The image of St. Augustine is being brought to the barrio and sitio chapels of the parish for a period of 5 days. There, everyday a prayer is held in honor of the patron, thanking God for the blessings received for the past year. This year, we started at barrio Bitin. Right after the celebration of the Holy Eucharist the Knights of the Altar brought the image to the said barrio and the community there awaits and prrayed for his intercession.
